Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, at 3:00 p.m.: The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) hosted an event to unpack the significance of the Sixth Plenum of the Chinese Communist Party and what President Xi Jinping’s consolidation of power means for the future of China’s domestic and foreign policy. The discussion will feature Chris Buckley, chief China correspondent at the New York Times; Phillip Saunders, director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs at National Defense University; Patricia Thornton, associate professor of Chinese politics at the University of Oxford; and Scott Kennedy, senior adviser and trustee chair in Chinese business and economics at CSIS. The discussion will be moderated by Jude Blanchette, Freeman Chair in China Studies at CSIS and Bonny Lin, senior fellow for Asian security and director of the China Power Project at CSIS.

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing to examine United States policy on democracy in Latin America and the Caribbean. The committee will hear testimony from Brian Nichols, assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs at the Department of State, and Todd Robinson, assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement affairs at the Department of State.

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at 2:30 p.m.: The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will hold a hearing to discuss FedRAMP reform, focusing on recommendations to reduce burden, enhance security and address inefficiencies in the government cloud authorization process. The committee has yet to release a witness list.

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at 6:00 p.m.: The Sigur Center for Asian Studies at the George Washington University will host Misato Matsuoka, associate professor at Teikyo University, for a conversation on Japanese security discourse under Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s administration.
